Our beginning...
If June 29, 2012, had been different, this company would never have been created. On that day, the wind storm, now infamously referred to as "the derecho", struck our area during a stretch of heat and high humidity.
We live in a rural area and depend on a well for our water supply. With eight people living in the home, and no power, things quickly became uncomfortable. Highs over the next several days were in the 90s and the humidity was oppressive. We had a couple of small portable generators that kept our refrigerator and freezer cold, but we had no water or air conditioning. As the days without power continued, we flushed our toilet by carrying buckets of water from the kids' swimming pool. I was constantly running to the gas station for fuel. The danger of refueling a hot generator was a constant concern. Sleep was almost non-existent, as even with the fans running, and access to a somewhat cooler basement, it was still humid and hot inside. After 9 days, power was finally restored and my first call was to a local company that offered a whole-house generator solution.
I obtained several estimates and was very quickly discouraged. The whole-house generators were VERY EXPENSIVE and that was before costs related to the fuel (e.g. propane tank etc.) were added. As a single-income family, the prices were completely out of reach for my budget. I recall estimates in the $14,000.00 range, and this was over 10 years ago!
Over the next several years, generator technology improved and one day in 2020, I noticed that portable generators were increasing in power and coming down in price. I wondered if it would be possible for me to develop my whole-house emergency power solution using one of the large DuroMax generators. I wanted the ability to power my generator with propane, a highly superior fuel for generators, but also to have the option of gasoline. I wanted to easily manipulate the power demand, and also have the flexibility to take it with me if we ever moved.
Over the next several years I perfected my system, and it is now known as the EconoGen Emergency Power System.
The average home in Central Virginia loses power about four times per year and the power can stay out for a few minutes or many hours, depending on the situation. On average, a household in America is without power for between 5-6 hours per year. In our experience, most of our outages are resolved and power restored in less than 8 hours, sometimes far less. Our system comes standard with enough propane for 24 hours. This can easily be increased by manipulating your power demand (e.g. turning off lights/AC or heat, etc. overnight), or simply adding one or more additional propane tanks. Your EconoGen enclosure can support up to three, 100-pound propane cylinders. Depending on your power demand, this will supply your home with power for 3-5 days. Tanks are easily refilled by any propane delivery service without disconnecting the tanks from the enclosure. (We recommend Foster Fuels.)
For each power outage, our system will require you to devote about 10 minutes to activate, and about 5 minutes to deactivate the system. With our competitors' systems currently costing $18-22K, your EconoGen system savings could far exceed $10,000!
When my power goes out, and it's pouring rain, I go outside and do a few minutes of work. I turn on my propane tank, push a button to start my generator, plug my cord into my transfer box and I'm back inside. I walk to my electrical panel, select the circuits I want to power, and I'm done! When power is restored, I reverse the process and I'm back online with my regular power supply. It's very simple, very safe, and we have step-by-step guide and training videos on a dedicated customer YouTube Channel that will walk you through every step, just in case you need a reminder.
If you have $15,000.00 - $20,000.00 in disposable income and are unwilling to do a couple of minutes of work, the competitors' systems may be the right choice for you. Understand that, unlike our system, if you ever move, you will have to leave your system behind. Also remember that, unlike our system, the massive competitor systems burn up to 3.5 gallons/hour or $336 (84 gallons x $4/gallon) of propane each day! With our Power Management System, your EconoGen System consumes about 1.7 gallons/hour of propane or about $170/day, an additional savings of $166/day! Our system also offers the flexibility of using gasoline if propane supplies are disrupted. Our competitor's system is permanently tied to your home. Your EconoGen System easily moves with you, and we'll even move it and install it at your new home if you relocate within our service area.
An EconoGen Emergency Power System provides reliable emergency power for all your essentials (like air conditioning, refrigerator/freezers, water, etc.) at a fraction of the cost of other systems. We encourage you to compare us to our competitors. We believe you will appreciate the amazing benefits of the EconoGen System.
